Nnaalinya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga has officially launched the construction of a new six-storey academic building at Muteesa I Royal University in Kakeeka, Mmengo, in a project expected to significantly expand the institution's learning facilities.
The new building will accommodate 4,700 students and will feature 100 lecture rooms as well as a 1,000-seat auditorium. The project is estimated to cost shs 23 billion, with Centenary Bank providing financial support.
While presenting the project, the Minister for Human Development and Education in the Buganda Kingdom, Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, said the construction would be carried out in two phases.
"The first phase will cost Shs10 billion, while the second phase will require Shs13 billion. Each phase is expected to take two years to complete," Nakate said.
She added that the Kingdom is still evaluating construction firms before awarding the contract.
"At the moment, we are assessing construction companies that will undertake the project," she said.
Minister Nakate also revealed that Weerinde Insurance Brokerage Services Ltd has been appointed to provide insurance cover for the construction works.
On behalf of the Buganda Kingdom's Ministry of Education, Nakate commended Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for his continued commitment to improving education standards across the Kingdom.
"We thank His Majesty the Kabaka for his unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of education and investing in the future of our learners," she said.
